8. Al Ewing's Ultimates
How do you solve a problem like Galactus?
That's the first seemingly impossible problem Ewing's Ultimate attempt to fix. Led by genius scientist Blue Marvel, the team aspired to do more than just beat up whatever bad guy was destroying New York City that week. He enlisted Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Spectrum and Miss America and set off into space. Their first mission? Satiate Galactus' hunger. Permanently.
The team was formed in the wake of the universe-redefining Secret Wars, and given the team's MO, it needed suitably powerful members. Unlike many superhero teams, it consisted of a small roster that never changed. Granted, the series perhaps didn't last long enough to warrant a change, but good things don't always last as long as they should.
