10 More Comic Book Teams That Need Their Own Movie

4. Rick Remender's Uncanny X-Force

Mutant teams are a dime a dozen. What makes this one stand out? Why does it deserve the silver screen treatment over, say, X Factor, Excalibur, or X-Statix? Why Uncanny X-Force? Three of the five members have already appeared in movies, one of them - Wolverine - in quite a few.

The reasoning is simple: they're a damn good, well-written team. Alongside Logan are Deadpool, Psylocke, Fantomex, and leader Angel. The team is effectively a black ops unit, doing the dirty, morally iffy jobs that wouldn't go down well with anyone, let alone the anti-mutant public. This allowed writer Rick Remender to tackle issues and themes that weren't resolved with a few punches, such as pre-emptive justice and nature vs. nurture.

It helped that the celebrated run wasn't hampered by crossover events, something that trips up far too many series. Yes, there were three Fear Itself tie-in issues, but none of them derailed the story Remender was deftly building. It also helped that the series had a definitive ending; far too often a successful, acclaimed series is dragged way past its sell-by date, much to its detriment. Creativity was top dog, and it showed.

To top it all off, the series packed a hefty emotional punch. It wasn't just the action sequences that were strong, it was the quiet, contemplative moments, too, that the characters were more than theirs powers. Humanising superheroes, showing their light and dark sides, would show that the genre is to be taken seriously.
