And finally, we have Bruce getting absolutely bludgeoned by an array of various medieval weaponry.

What makes this one stand out as opposed to the others is not only the sheer brutality of it but the fact that this happens to a relatively young and inexperienced Batman.

Taking place during Batman Zero Year, Bruce is hot on the heels of the ruthless Red Hood gang. While previous versions of the Red Hood gang depicted them as more generic goons, this iteration has them as a terrifying team of well-dressed mercenaries.

After failing to stop them on several occasions, the gang takes the fight to Bruce by blowing up a building he is in. At this point Bruce hadn't even developed a Batsuit, let alone his arsenal of fancy gadgets to help protect himself. What followed was a bloody mess as he was beaten with a mace, a hammer, a knight's gauntlet, and whatever else was lying about in the Dark Knight's weapon filled suite.

It was after this beating that our recovering hero decided to don the mantle of the bat - the unfortunate implication being that "Batman" may have been the result of a dazed individual pumped full of heavy painkillers.
