10 Most Embarrassing Comic Book Deaths

The irredeemable Ultimatum storyline from the Ultimate Marvel offshoot has been covered to death (pun intended), but in a book filled with the horrible deaths of virtually every major Marvel comic book character, it would be remiss of me not to mention it. The over-the-top and tasteless fashion in which the characters meet their untimely demise is generally seen as a shoddy attempt to mask sub-par writing.

Needless to say, the gory ways in which characters meet their makers has often been labeled as nothing more than shameless titillation. In a book that features numerous characters being tortured, blown up, and drowned, it’s hard to pick just one. While Magneto casually snapping Professor X’s neck and Angel’s wings being ripped off are worth a mention, the most infamous death belongs to The Wasp.

The Wasp is revealed to be partially eaten by The Blob, who while shoving the Wasp’s entrails into his mouth comments, “Tastes like chicken.” As if this wasn’t tasteless enough, an enraged Hank Pym (in Giant-Man form) picks up the Blob and bites his head off.
