In this alternate reality one-off, Frank Castle is a New York police officer who witnesses the deaths of his wife and children during a battle between the members of the X-Men and the Avengers while they battled some aliens. Since none of the heroes want to admit that their actions inadvertently caused the deaths of innocent civilians, an enraged Castle opens fire on the heroes, killing Cyclops, Shadowcat, and Hawkeye.

Castle is taken into custody and put on trial, but a mysterious group of people who have also been negatively affected by the actions of superheroes free him. They offer to bankroll Castle’s Tarantino-inspired quest for bloody revenge, and he becomes the Punisher. As the Punisher, Castle meticulously kills superheroes and villains with impunity, popping caps into Marvel’s most recognizable characters like an NRA poster boy.

Punisher tracks down Dr. Doom, arguably one of Marvel’s most powerful villains, and attempts to take him down with a magnetic mine. Doom’s armor spares him from the blast, but the Punisher doesn’t give up so easily. Arming himself with a sledgehammer, Castle proceeds to pummel Doom’s head with it. The hammer rattles against Doom’s armor until it finally gives way, allowing Punisher to land a killing blow with a sickening squelch.
