Anyone in the know knew for a fact that this was going to be #1.

In the wake of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, the Big Two were desperate to repeat that monstrous success of the dark brutal take on a classic character. Born from this was the hilarious failure of Spider-Man: Reign.

Your writer could tell you about the nothing story, the terrible world-building, the poor characterization, but that ain't what you're here for, so let's get to it. In this universe, Mary Jane has been dead from cancer for years. And the twist is that it was Peter who gave her cancer due to his radioactive... fluids.

Turns out that every fluid his body produces, from blood to sweat to... other stuff, has a hint of radiation to it now. So every time they boned, Mary Jane was being doused in radiation as well. And eventually, it was enough to give her cancer and kill her. This, uh, let's call it "creative" take on Spider-Man's biology lives in infamy among Spidey fans to this day, and is by far the most embarrassing moment in the history of the character.
