10 Most Emotional Wolverine Moments

7. Having His Heart Torn Out

Wolverine death
Marvel Comics

Arguably more painful than having the metal torn from his bones was Wolverine's unfortunate experience at the hands of the Horde in 1987's Uncanny X-Men Annual #11.

In an attempt to kill Wolverine, a nameless Horde member rips his heart straight from his body. Despite Wolverine's healing factor the outright removal of one of his vital organs would undoubtedly kill him. The villain very nearly comes close to accomplishing his mission, but through some ridiculous writing, Wolverine is resurrected and his body restored when a lone droplet of his blood lands on a mystical alien sword.

Even though he survives this physical trauma, as only Wolverine can, the sight of the fan favourite character in such gruesome agony would have been horrifying for fans reading the comic, not to mention the emotional impact on the character himself. However much Wolverine can physically heal, his emotional traumas are indelible, and this incident would surely be one of the more painful memories.

So, although it's far from the most logical Wolverine moment, having his heart torn out is certainly one of the most painful and emotional moments in the character's history.
