What would Batman be without his catalog of loveable sidekicks? Well, substantially more brooding, for starters - and without a good portion of his most important comics.

Given that Robin is such an absolute staple of the Batman franchise, it has to be said that the choice to give the hulking hero a partner in stopping crime is one of the most important events in the character's history.

While naturally this makes the decision to get the first Robin, Dick Grayson, in Detective Comics #38, the most important, it's equally vital that the choice was made to have Batman keep acquiring caped assistants, bringing us an entire wonderful array of varied Robins, all with their own vital storylines in the universe.

As an integral part of Batman's life since the 1970s, each and every Robin (or Red Robin, or whatever other name they're going by) has made their mark on the series, making them the unofficial backbone of the franchise itself.
