10 Most Important Events In Batman History
3. Batman Being Broken - Knightfall
There are few moments in the Dark Knight's history so iconic that they're known by even those who consider superhero stories 'kind of for nerds'. Mercifully, the classic Batman comic Knightfall is one of these, known both due to its simply iconic nature among comic fans, and also due to its adaptation into the final film in Christopher Nolan's iconic trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.
And it's fame comes for good reason, as the series shown us perhaps the biggest downfall in Batman's entire career, where he is cleverly set up by Bane to have to take down countless other villains, and then torn apart by the luchador when the pair finally fight - culminating in Bane breaking Batman's spine, requiring him to find someone else to take the role of the Dark Knight while he recovers.
This basically covered unexplored territory for the superhero genre, as we'd never seen a hero as competent as Batman be taken out so decisively. Similarly, we'd never seen a hero get beat so bad they had to stay off sick for the rest of the comic, which is where we leave Bruce Wayne until the final fight of the series.
