4. "A Wife's Place Is In The Home" - The Marriage Of Batman And Batwoman
Another case of hearty comic book sexism, there was once a time where Batman and Batwoman not only became an item, but they became a married couple.
Of course, this was Kathy Kane, the first Batwoman, who exchanged vows with the Caped Crusader. One of the main reasons why Kane was created in 1956 was in response to Fredric Wertham's 1954 Seduction of the Innocent - a book that alleged Batman and Robin were actually in a gay relationship.
By the time of Batman #122 in '59, The Marriage of Batman and Batwoman found Kathy suiting up as her own hero, unaware that the man she was smitten with - as in, Bruce Wayne - was actually the World's Greatest Detective. Upon learning Bruce's secret post-marriage, Kane is stopped from parading as Batwoman by a Wayne who states, "A wife's place is in the home".
Added to that, one of the other main driving factors behind Bruce's wish for his bride to stay away from herodom is because he doesn't want a rogue to capture and unmask her, then piece together that her husband Bruce Wayne must be Batman.
Of course, Batwoman does get caught, does get unmasked, and people do deduce Batman's real identity. All while Robin berates Kathy for "ruining Batman's career".
Bizarrely, this entire story would end up being a dream of the jealous Boy Wonder's.
