10 Most Inappropriate Superman Storylines

1. The Injustice Of Injustice

Superman Supergirl Kiss
DC Comics

Injustice explores the far too often used trope of Superman going evil and how the rest of the heroes and the world at large would respond to that. Injustice pushes the Man of Steel far beyond his heroic origins into a despot that takes over the world.

Jimmy Olsen is killed and a newly pregnant Lois Lane is kidnapped by the Joker and Harley Quinn. Superman arrived at the submarine where Joker was hiding and where Supes believed that Doomsday was attacking him. Kal-El carried the monster into space, ignoring the screaming transmissions of Batman and the Justice League. The Joker had laced Scarecrow’s fear toxin with kryptonite and Clark had actually carried Lois into space, killing her and their child. The Harlequin of Hate had also attached a kill switch to Lois’ heart for a nuclear bomb that destroyed Metropolis. Kal put his hand through Joker’s chest, killing him, and then stated that all violence would end. This started a descent into madness where the Boy Scout killed friends, ignored governments, and took over nations.

The true problem with Injustice, is it completely misunderstands the concept of Superman. At his core, no matter what, there is hope. He absolutely does not kill his friends and he does not become a totalitarian despot. The Man of Tomorrow is supposed to be inspirational and aspirational, not a villain.
