10 Most Insane Alternate Universe Batmen

4. The Grim Knight

Batman Grim Reaper
DC Comics

Upon debuting in The Batman who Laughs Vol 2 #1, The Grim Knight was described by comic fans as “Batman goes Punisher”. This Bruce Wayne’s story verged from the typical canon during the traumatic events of his parent’s death. After Joe Chill murdered the Waynes during a mugging which quickly escalated, he made the mistake of dropping his gun while snatching pearls from Martha Wayne’s neck. In fury and grief, Bruce wielded the gun and slayed Chill.

The incident sparked Bruce’s fascination with guns, which carried over into his Batman persona. He brought not only expert marksmanship, but also an abundance of lethal weapons and the desire to make sure each one lived up to the label.

The Grim Knight had more than just brutality on his side. He used Wayne Enterprises to install illegal and invasive surveillance around Gotham. The Grim Knight slaughtered criminals at all level of society and seized the city. Though Gotham was safer than ever, The Grim Knight became a borderline dictator who was eventually brought down by Jim Gordon, Harvey Dent, and the FBI.

The Grim Knight found new zeal in the Dark Knights, serving as the Batman Who Laughs' second-in-command.
