10 Most Insane Alternate Universe Batmen

2. Nazi Batman

In Countdown to Adventure, the Batman of Earth-10, also known as Leatherwing, existed in an alternate universe skewed by Nazi Germany winning World War II. In the place of the Justice League of America was JLAxis, a superhero team focused on preserving Nazi dominance worldwide.

Little is known about the man prior to becoming Leatherwing. He did not have superpowers but was described as being of “peak human condition”. His physical appearance was not too much of a radical departure from tradition. However, the iconic Batman logo on the chest of his body armour was marred by a red swastika.

The discrimination of the Nazi party had, in the universe’s present day, been automated. Test centres around the world separated genetic lines to “weed out the weak”. Batman, as a key agent of the Nazi party, fully adopted its disturbing party line. It was an unnerving take on ‘The Dark Knight’, with the long-time crusader for justice embracing racist ideology, putting it into violent practice, and blindly following one of history’s most evil men.

Though Batman’s association with Nazism was short lived, it remains one of the character’s most twisted re-imaginings.
