10 Most Interesting Batman Villains You've Never Heard Of

5. Tiger Shark

Batman Cornelius Stirk
DC Comics

Doctor Gaige was a world-renowned oceanographer and genius who had a secret life as Tiger Shark, a pirate who terrorized the high seas! Batman once turned to Dr. Gaige for help in capturing Tiger Shark, which is usually how these things go in comic books. The character didn't make much of a splash (pun intended) but has since been revamped.

He first appeared in Detective Comics #147 back in 1949, and thanks to some creative retconning, he returned in Detective Comics #878 as a drastically different character. The new Tiger Shark is still a pirate, but his desire to clothe himself in the skins of exotic animals make him particularly hated by the more woke members of the comic book community of the 21st century.

His attire usually consists of a coat made from a Maltese tiger, and he carries a cane made of a white rhinoceros horn. He even had himself augmented with a forked tongue covered in symbols, which were carved into it.

When he came back in the New 52, he was working with the Court of Owls and was behind Talon's attempt on Bruce Wayne's life. He's still a minor villain, but he's far more interesting than he was when he was first introduced.
