10 Most Interesting Marvel Superhero Teams You've Never Heard Of

4. Midnight Sons

Midnight Sons
Marvel Comics

During the early 90's, Marvel restructured all of their comics so that they were in "families". Each family contained a group of linked books (such as all the X-Men books or all the Spider-Man books) under the control of a single editor. The idea was that each group would exist in its own pocket of the Marvel Universe, but each comic would share a tight-knit continuity with the rest of its family.

As part of this, all of Marvel's magic-themed books were grouped together under the Midnight Sons banner.

In-comic, the Midinight Sons were a loose affiliation of magical heroes like Blade, Ghost Rider, Damian Hellstrom and Morbius, the Pretend Vampire who came together to fight the demon Lilith. The team was secretly assembled by Doctor Strange who also later joined the group himself.

The Midnight Sons are the only team on this list never to have their own series. Instead, the Sons only ever came together as a team as part of crossovers between the numerous titles under its banner.

Ironically, the Midnight Sons became an official team right before a lot of the series involved were cancelled. This led to the dissolution of the Midnight Sons brand and the team wouldn't be mentioned again until years later when Morbius created a mostly unrelated group to fight zombies.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
