10 Most Ironic Deaths In Comics History
8. The Death Of Tim Drake (Injustice 2)
Those familiar with the “Injustice” prequel comic know that a character dying is really an inevitable situation- especially because of how crucial it becomes to the drama of the series overall. Even still, there are some instances where the death of a character has a legitimate purpose to play in the grand scheme of things.
The death of Red Robin in the “Injustice 2” comic, for example, affects the survival of Superboy outside of the Phantom Zone. Prior to this, Superman had punctured Conner's heart and offered to save him by locking him away in the Phantom Zone. He wouldn't do this, however, unless the Titans were also locked away
To save Conner, the Titans agree and it's there where they would remain until “Injustice 2,” where Batman and his allies would release them. Unfortunately, though, this allows the villain Zod a chance to escape the Phantom Zone, whereupon he immediately kills Red Robin.
Needless to say, Batman is left furious because of this and he goes to retrieve his mecha-suit to bring down Zod. Using the suit's Kryptonite laced fear toxin gas to confuse him, Batman manages to give Zod a through beat-down until he's eventually intercepted by the Amazo android.
The droid was originally sent by Ra's Al Ghul to kill Zod, due to his mission to ensure the survival of Earth (which would've been endangered by Zod's own mission to terra-form on Earth).
Amazo killing Zod, ironically enough, allows for a viable heart transplant that would save Superboy's life- thus, coming across as a trade of Red Robin for Superboy.
