If you don't like slugs then look away now, because this moment will likely be your worst nightmare.

Another one of Ito's short but highly effective tales, Slug Girl can be located in Volume 7 of The Horror World Of Junji Ito. Originally published in Japan in 1997, this tale sees school girl Rie notice that Yuko, her usually talkative friend with a serious phobia of slugs (that's molluscophobia), has become very quiet and has difficulty talking.

When Yuko stops going to school, Rie finally discovers what's wrong with her friend when she witnesses a large slug slowly force its way out of her mouth, and crawl over her face.

Possibly one of Ito's most notorious moments of pure abject body horror, the image of Yuko with her slug tongue is a hideous sight to behold.

Things don't get much better for Yuko either. After numerous attempts to remove the slug, her parents decide to place her in a bath filled with salt.

The treatment, of course, doesn't work and results in Yuko's body shrinking to a tiny size. The slug still alive, it uses her still living head as its shell, living out its life in her parents' garden.
