The Carnage symbiote is bad all on its own, but what happens if it were to be wielded by someone less pants-on-head crazy, who is just as big a threat without it as with? Well, a few years ago, we got our answer.

The Red Goblin is the unholy fusion of The Green Goblin, Norman Osborne, and the Carnage symbiote. Now, Norman has gotten his hands on symbiotes in the past, but this time was unlike any of the others.

The biggest change was that, thanks to the Goblin formula, Red Goblin was immune to sonic vibrations and fire - the only two surefire weaknesses of a symbiote. Combine that with the already insane power of the Carnage symbiote and the cunning and ruthlessness of The Green Goblin and yeah, Spidey is in trouble.

Throughout the Go Down Swinging storyline, Spider-Man throws EVERYTHING at Red Goblin, even re-donning the black suit to try and beat him. In the end, he had to resort go playing to Norman's ego to get him to drop the symbiote to fight him one on one. It was a hard fought battle and Red Goblin took quite a few bites out of Peter on the way down, but Peter managed to finally do it.
