As mentioned before, comics are sometimes written in a way that will justify a street-level hero bringing a god to their knees. Alternate timeline stories are especially rife with these David and Goliath style encounters, and What If? #32 is no different.

This story sees the incredibly resourceful villain Michael Korvac achieve the means to kill and resurrect the Avengers at his whim. Using the more powerful heroes, Korvac puts plans in place to take over the universe and even seal off various supernatural entites and deities from accessing it.

During this cosmic takeover, various cosmic entities devise a means to stop the power-hungry villain's scheme and chief among them is Galactus, who confronts a Korvac-controlled Captain America aboard the former's ship.

Steve comes into possession of the all-powerful Ultimate Nullifier, and before the World Devourer can protect, the human uses the device to completely obliterate Galactus from existence. While Steve died in the process, Galactus's removal from the chessboard only solidified Korvac's ascension to power.
