Ultimatum Magneto Kills Wolverine
Marvel Comics

In the Grant Morrison-written New X-Men #150, the mutant healer Xorn was revealed as their greatest enemy, Magneto. The X-Men are scattered across the world, the Phoenix Jean Grey and Wolverine are somewhere in the universe, and Magnus is atop a skyscraper in Manhattan, threatening to tilt the Earth’s axis, which would kill millions, if not billions.

The US Government is ready to deploy ceramic planes with neutron warheads that will kill anyone with a mutation. Magneto’s own underlings, except for the Toad, have lost faith in him, and Beck’s arrival opens the door for Fantomex to shoot him. Cyclops emerges violently from the floor beneath Magnus and hits him repeatedly. Scott narrows the eye beams and shoots them directly into the face opening of Erik’s mask, shattering it, and burning his hair and face.

Beast convinces the White House to hold off on their bomb, and the X-Men, including an awoken Xavier, Jean Grey, and Wolverine, take on Magneto. They inform him that returning was the worst thing he could have done. Magneto was a revered martyr and he is making a mockery of that image. Magnus is beaten badly and, right before he succumbs, he touched Phoenix and transfers all his power to her, giving her a heart attack. Wolverine goes feral with rage and beheads Magneto. And as Jean dies, the world goes white.
