Herbert Wyndham was a biologist that was inspired by the genetic research of Nathaniel Essex; the scientist who became the X-Man villain, Mister Sinister. Not only was Wyndham the first person to decode DNA, he learned how to rewrite the genes of any living creature.

Tinkering with his own genetic code, Herbert evolved himself into The High Evolutionary. The more he altered his DNA, the more powers he obtained. Over the years, he developed telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, cosmic awareness, and the ability to alter matter and energy. He wears a sentient outfit that allows him to heal from almost any injury.

Believing his experiments were beyond human understanding, he travelled the cosmos, hoping to create a perfect species. Not only does he desire to heighten the evolution of worthy organisms but he intends to sterilise those he deems genetically unfit.

The Evolutionary knows more about evolution than anyone in the universe. He is also one of the only human beings whose intelligence can be compared to cosmic beings like The Stranger or Master Order.
