10 Most Powerful Sorcerers In DC Comics

5. Zatanna

Doctor Fate DC Comics
DC Comics

After her father John Zatara first made his presence known as DC's first magical hero back in 1938, Zatanna Zatara was introduced to continue his legacy and become the Justice League's longest-serving magician.

Developing a huge fan following since her introduction in 1964, Zatanna is an expert magic-user in the guise of a stage magician. With an impressive knowledge of spells, illusions, cons, and her signature 'backwards magic', this top-hatted heroine is as powerful as she is iconic.

Also romantically involved with Batman and John Constantine, and key players in their origin stories, Zatanna is most notable for her association with the Justice League, Justice League Dark, and the Sentinels of Magic. She has provided magical support in key plots such as The Books of Magic, Infinite Crisis, and New 52, and acted as the magical go-to for Batman, Hawkman, and more.

Occasionally, her magic has been too powerful and unpredictable, with her mind-wiping abilities causing questions of morality during Identity Crisis. Erasing the memories of Dr Light - who assaulted Sue Dibny, Elongated Man's wife - Zatanna even wiped Batman's mind when he tried to stop her.

Despite her occasionally questionable actions and uncontrollable powers, Zatanna has been a mainstay in the DC Universe and has appeared in various adaptations. She notably appeared as one of the few DC heroes to cross into Batman: The Animated Series, and subsequently appeared in Justice League Unlimited, Smallville, Young Justice, and Justice League Action. She also has a movie in development at WB, so hopefully we'll get to see this mistress of the mystic arts on the big screen soon.
