10 Most Powerful X-Men Villains
5. Magneto
Eric Lensherr, aka, Magneto was the first villain of the X-Men universe, having been first introduced alongside the titular team in X-Men #1, back in 1963. He is called the "Master of Magnetism," and it's a name he earned. Magneto possesses the ability to manipulate, generate, and control magnetic fields, and those abilities offer up a significant advantage in a fight.
Because he can generate a magnetic field, he is virtually untouchable and can create force fields using this ability. He can also levitate and soar through the air via magnetic fields, and with his stylish helmet, he is immune to telepathic attacks.
Magneto has a long and complicated backstory, which has guided his progress through the Marvel Universe. He's been a supervillain bent on wiping out all of humanity, sparing the mutant race so they could live on Earth as "Homo Superior," but he's also been an anti-hero, and a hero outright as well.
In most depictions, he's the old friend of Charles Xavier, and where Charles wanted to change the world through peaceful initiatives, Eric prefers more direct action. This pitted the two men against one another, and with Charles' X-Men, and Eric's Brotherhood of [Evil] Mutants, the two fought for decades.
