10 Most Ridiculous Ways Superheroes Have Come Back From The Dead

8. Alfred Pennyworth Is Turned Into A Supervillain

The Outsider is definitely not remembered as one of Batman's greatest villains.

At one point, the writers of Batman decided to get rid of Alfred Pennyworth and had him sacrifice himself to save Batman and Robin. Unfortunately, this was back in the 60's when everything was as goofy as possible and so he died by throwing himself in front of a boulder.

Processing the loss like any well-rounded adult dressed in spandex, Batman dumped Alfred's body in a refrigerated coffin and forgot about him for the next two years.

However, it turned out that the World's Greatest Detective didn't actually bother to check if his butler was dead. Alfred was still alive, but unconscious. He was then dug up by a scientist who immediately proved his credentials by theorising that Alfred's devotion to Batman was enough to counteract having all his organs crushed by a giant rock.

Since this was still the 60's, the scientist conveniently had a regeneration ray that he used on Alfred. However, since this was still the 60's, it went horribly wrong and Alfred was turned into the Outsider, a villain determined to destroy Batman and Robin with his twin powers of telekinesis and really bad eczema.

Batman eventually saved Alfred by pushing him back into the regeneration ray which returned him to normal and handily made him forget this whole weird ordeal.
