10 Most Ridiculously Overpowered Superheroes In The Marvel Universe
5. Sentry
Here we have a character with the power of one million suns. What exactly does that mean? It doesn't matter what it means because the Sentry's power is whatever he chooses it to be. He's a character with the ability to do just about anything he wants by means of changing history.
It's stated that he received his powers from a super serum back in the days before Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four came to prominence. But can this be true? Could he have simply rewritten his history to have had this origin? There are few characters as convoluted as the Sentry; he even out complicates the Phoenix. This is what makes him so dangerously powerful.
The Sentry is just as much a villain as he is a hero due to the dissociative relationship between himself and the Void; in the simplest of terms, the two are one and the same. Going into detail on this would only prove disastrous so instead let us focus on the very powers that put the man on this list to begin with.
Sentry has demonstrated the powers of flight, super strength, agility, super speed, invulnerability, psychic abilities, energy and light manipulation, and more. His powers - unlike those of other superheroes featured on this list - are limitless. The Sentry has demonstrated the ability to completely wipe all memories of his existence from the minds of every living being on Earth.
Someone with this kind of power should not exist within the Marvel universe at all. During Sentry's time with the Avengers he was constantly written out or given inexcusable reasons as to why he couldn't participate in battle all because he is way too powerful; if he had been allowed to fight then there would be no threat.
He has taken down every character who has gotten in his way including previous entries Hulk and Wolverine. He even ripped Carnage in two! The character of the Sentry is quite interesting, but he seems to be more of a plot device for writers than an actual character worth caring about. His powers can be described in many ways such as "being ahead of time," or "powerful as one million suns" but in truth, he's just a physical manifestation of retconning.
His ability to do anything he desires - including changing history - allows writers to easily do anything they want by altering past stories. Whereas overpowered characters like Thor and Deadpool have some sort of inhibitor to keep them in check Sentry has none whatsoever. His powers truly are limitless and that is just way too much for any single character.
