Is he a soldier? Is he a philanthropist? Is he a cab driver? No! He's...Well, all three, but also possessed by an Egyptian god? Maybe? Whatever, he's messed up either way. Moon Knight is a lesser known hero in the Marvel roster and, despite popular opinion, is not their answer to Batman.

As if the past would determine his future, Marc Spector has an eclectic history. A heavyweight boxer turned US Marine turned mercenary, Spector stumbled across an ancient Egyptian temple whilst working with a mercenary called Bushman, so I guess he was an archaeologist as well. Intent on looting the place, Bushman killed most of the crew who had unearthed it and then beat Spector to within an inch of his life.

Some faithful folk brought Spector to the temple where, upon dying, he had a vision of meeting Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. They struck a deal, resulting in him being resurrected as Khonshu's avatar. Whether this actually happened or was just conjured by Spector's dying mind is something debated extensively later on. Either way by day he's one of several personas and by night he's clad in white beating up criminals, so he's probably not all there.
