10 Most Unhinged Comic Book Characters

7. The Punisher

Unhinged Comic Characters DC
Marvel Comics

It's always a topic of discussion as to whether The Punisher is clinically insane or not, but however you spin it he's certainly an accomplished serial killer. Once a highly decorated US Marine, Castle was driven to a life of vigilantism after witnessing his entire family get gunned down. Deciding that society was 'sick', The Punisher was born as an incredibly aggressive 'cure'.

As analysed in the second series of 'Daredevil', Castle may be constantly living in the moment where his family was gunned down, causing him to constantly be in a state of extreme anguish, emotional pain and unbridled rage. That's pretty sad, until you remember that also causes him to indiscriminately kill anyone he deems to be a bad guy.

Plenty of those in world of Marvel seem to consider him nuts, even good ol' Cap'n 'merica who, in Civil War, called him insane. Seems a bit mean really, especially as Castle looks up to Steve Rodgers, but it's also hard to argue with him. Refusing to blame his actions on afflictions like PTSD or any other psychological label, The Punisher very well may be completely sane; but that doesn't stop him from being insanely dangerous.
