10 Most Unhinged Comic Book Characters
2. The Sentry / The Void
Someone so unstable he once had to eradicate all memory of himself from the world, The Sentry is forever fighting a losing battle against his dark side; one that, given the chance, could extinguish all life from existence. This doomsday dealing alter-ego is known as The Void, and it's essentially gone unchallenged anytime it pops up.
Robert Reynolds is a tragic character, really. A meth addict, Reynolds wasn't above breaking into places and consuming anything he could get his hands on, though one of these places was one of the many subsidiary laboratories attempting to recreate the Super Serum (that thing that made Cap'n 'merica so darn super) albeit a thousand times more potent. As any of us would do at seeing a glowing vial of chemicals, Reynolds downed it and gained the power of a million exploding suns.
Putting aside exactly how one would create such a serum, its creators tried to get Reynolds to play ball with their super-soldier experiment, only for him to bail and become 'The Sentry' on his own turf. The problem was that his troubled psyche was liable to break and unleash The Void, which means a bad day for him could result in a bad day for all of existence.
