10 Non-Superhero Comics You Didn't Know Were Becoming Films And TV Shows
1. Sandman
A modern classic of Western comics with multiple artists, considered one of the greatest graphic novel series of all time, The Sandman builds on existing world mythology while creating its own, and has long since been considered unadaptable, with writer Neil Gaiman rejecting previous attempts for not understanding what made it great.
With Gaiman himself and greats like Allan Heinberg and David Goyer attached to the project, however, it seems to stand a chance of succeeding in a way that will please both comic fans and viewers alike.
According to Gaiman, this series plans to cover the first volume, Preludes and Nocturnes, plus a little bit more, in the first season, promising a deliciously long multi-season run to cover the Sandman's illustrious ten volume run.
With stories running the gamut between dark DC characters (depending on what rights are negotiated between networks) such as Doctor Destiny and even John Constantine, and the Endless being present for mythological and historical events, this series promises to be epic in scale yet nuanced and subtle.
If done right, and preserving the spirit of the original comics, it might just be one of the greatest TV series of the last few decades.
