10 Non-Superhero Comics You Didn't Know Were Becoming Films And TV Shows
3. Y The Last Man
With multiple attempts to get an adaptation off the ground, this multi-award winning comic follows the last surviving man on an Earth where a virus decimated any living mammal with a Y chromosome, except for human man Yorick Brown and his male capuchin monkey Ampersand.
A semi-apocalyptic adventure with a colourful cast of characters with their own motivations in killing, capturing, or protecting Yorick, as well as a world reeling from the implications of mass androcide, this story is reminiscent of shows like The Walking Dead, but much less extreme and much more optimistic. Yorick and his companions and allies dodge multiple threats, trying to get to safety while brighter minds try to find a way to preserve humanity's future.
As a TV series, it'd make for fascinating social commentary and a compelling story of survival and relationships, not to mention an intriguing take on a show where every (human) character except one is a woman.
Recent news reported a change in showrunners, as well as the monkey from Friends joining the cast, but what looked to be a troubled production appears to now be well underway.
