10 Non-Superhero Comics You Didn't Know Were Becoming Films And TV Shows

4. Black Magick

Black Magick
Image Comics/Nicola Scott

In a title somewhat similar to Trese, as mentioned earlier on the list, Black Magick also involves a female supernatural detective taking charge when it comes to the weirder side of the criminal underworld, but this title by renowned writer-artist team Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott involves a seemingly mundane detective who keeps her life as a practising witch a secret, until the supernatural starts to bleed into her work life.

Still in the works, with pilot scripts reportedly finished just a few months ago, the title focuses on a woman with a dark and complex past in magick, her other life slowly unfolding with every new and unusual homicide, beautifully-drawn detective procedural and noir elements mixing with Sabrina-esque secret witchery.

With the enduring power of murder of the week cop shows and equally enduring genre TV focusing on horror elements and dark, supernatural themes, this upcoming show shouldn't have a hard time finding an enraptured audience.

Hopefully, the artistry and likeability of the characters in the comic translates well onto screen.
