10 Obscure Comic Book Titles That Deserve To Be Movies

5. Doktor Sleepless - Warren Ellis

When a self-styled "mad scientist" is the hero of a comic book, especially when set in a dark near-future, the excitement about a movie related to it is beyond certain. There are the character's antics certainly, and what seems to be a fairly clear agenda, but that gets intermingled with the question of how much he believes his own ravings. The story follows John Reinhardt, who has returned to his old home of Heavenside under this new self-claimed title, apparently with intent to destroy it, but there seems to be much more going on with that then there initially appears. The amount of ambiguity inherent therein gives the movie an opportunity to become a near-future cross between Brazil and Twin Peaks. Furthermore, author Warren Ellis bothered to take the time to put together a whole wiki of additional background information on the people and the technology that tie the whole story together. Because he has done this it should make for a nice, tight story with few plot-holes and thus a far easier time suspending disbelief, making the movie that much more entrancing. David Lynch might be a good candidate to direct. Steve Carrell would be the most intriguing choice to play John Reinhardt's role because he can play a mad scientist but also carries with him a certain likability that's inherently necessary to keep from grating on the audience.
