Whilst not strictly a direct copy of the Legends material, Disney used the foundations of Jacen Solo's Darth Caedus for Kylo Ren in the Sequel Trilogy.

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Jacen saw his brother, Anakin, get murdered, which gave him his first taste of the Dark Side when he killed the voxyn queen, a Jedi-killer designed by the Vong. Once the war ended, Jacen left the Jedi Order and traveled the galaxy, searching for answers about the Force. He eventually met a group called the Mind Walkers, who had learnt to travel to a different dimension known as beyond the shadows. They shared their knowledge with Solo, allowing him to visit the dimension, where he saw a vision of the galaxy's disturbing future. Wanting to prevent this, Jacen turned to the Dark Side and became Darth Caedus.

Much like Jacen, Ben Solo was apprentice to Luke Skywalker but succumbed to the Dark Side. According to the 2020 guide The Star Wars Book, the young Solo felt abandoned by his parents, who were busy propping up the New Republic, and his master was too preoccupied with rebuilding the Jedi Order. Paired with his fascination of Darth Vader and Snoke's promises of power, Ben turned on his master after Skywalker had seen his nephew's darkness, and eventually adopted the title, Kylo Ren.
