10 Popular Comic Book Characters Who Have Completely Vanished
1. Mockingbird
Barbara “Bobbi” Morse achieved a doctorate in biology before joining S.H.I.E.L.D. and becoming a spy code-named “Agent 19”. One of her earliest adventures sent her to the Savage Land where she aided Ka-Zar against agents of Advanced Idea Mechanics. She eventually earned the moniker “Mockingbird” for her habit of taunting her opponents in battle, similar to Spider-Man.
Mockingbird met Hawkeye when he was working as the chief of security for Cross Technological Services. The pair quickly fell in love and eloped. Together, they created the first roster of the West Coast Avengers team. Bobbi was trapped in the past and was sexually assaulted by the Phantom Rider, who she let fall off a cliff after a fight. Clint and Bobbi separated over this revelation, though the two seemingly reconciled, but that was actually a Skrull impostor. The impostor died and the real Mockingbird escaped.
Mockingbird was a member of Luke Cage’s New Avengers. She was gravely wounded when the team battled AIM leader Superia. To save her life, Bobbi was given a formula that was a mixture of the Super-Soldier Serum and the Infinity Formula. Mockingbird's lack of use in the comics may be traced back to Laura Barton in the MCU. Hawkeye's wife was a different S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Also, Bobbi Morse was a popular character in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series for a few seasons but, after leaving the series, the character's potential spinoff was ultimately axed.
