10 Powerful DC Comics Endings That Gave You Chills

6. Broken And Done

All Star Superman
DC Comics

Everyone knows the most famous page from this book is when Bane raises the Dark Knight above his head before breaking his back across his knee but it isn't the last shot and, arguably, it also isn't the most powerful. No, that honor goes to the final part before you close the book.

With Batman defeated beyond all recognition, Bane calmly tosses him aside like a used tissue before proclaiming that Bruce Wayne is broken and done. And what makes it such a shock is the ramifications it has.

As he's lying on the floor with Bane standing triumphantly over him the agony etched on the Caped Crusader's face is plain for all to see. He's lost for the first time ever and the blood that is oozing out of his mouth speaks volumes for the internal injuries that he's suffering from.

He's not just defeated physically either as Bane's reign of terror has left him psychologically scarred as well and, at the time, the reader is left wondering if Bruce Wayne will ever walk again, let alone pull on the cape and cowl.
