10 Questionable Actions Committed By Wolverine

4. Marrying A Deadly Foe

Viper

Seen In: Wolverine #126 (volume 2)

Even though he's short, hairy, ugly, ill-tempered, barely housebroken, smokes and drinks heavily, and has an affinity for stabbing things, Logan still manages to sleep with a surprisingly large number of very attractive women who are far out of his league. But believe it or not, there is such a thing as - if you'll forgive the sexist term - 'slumming', even for the Ol' Canucklehead.

Before she died, Seraph (one of the aforementioned women Logan slept with) made Logan swear a debt of honor to Viper. And yes, this is the same Viper who was once known as Madame Hydra, enjoys killing people with toxins, and is also a vicious crime lord who has gone after Logan and his loved ones on more than one occasion.

Part of this debt was that Logan owed Viper on behalf of Seraph. When Viper called in that marker, it was during a time when the island nation of Madripoor was in a state of chaos. With the ruling prince dead, various crime lords were vying for the top spot, and to secure it, Viper needed to be married to Logan, since all the crime lords respect him. So to pay a debt to a long-dead friend, Logan agreed to a marriage of convenience with one of his greatest foes so she could take control of an entire country. Pretty sure a honor debt is undermined when the debt involves giving a vicious murderess the power to oppress and kill others with impunity.

Oh, and Seraph, whose memory Logan was honoring with that debt? Turns out she wasn't really dead.
