10 Questionable Actions Committed By Wolverine

3. Worst. Secret Identity. Ever.

Seen In: Wolverine #1 (volume 2)

Wolverine's classic costume includes a mask, and there has been much debate over whether or not the mask is actually necessary. After all without the mask, he's got a pretty distinctive visual look, and it's not like he's ever been concerned about having a secret identity. But there was one time when he did have a secret identity, and it makes Clark Kent's glasses look like shape-shifting.

When Wolverine had to track down the Muramasa sword, it was during a time when the X-Men had allowed the world to think them dead to better strike at their enemies. That meant in order to hunt down the blade in Madripoor, Logan would need to adopt a new identity in order to avoid blowing the X-Men's cover. The identity he chose was Patch, and his "disguise" consisted of a simple eye-patch. Yup, that's it. Didn't flatten his hair or wear a bald cap, didn't change the color, didn't disguise his voice, didn't even show caution about popping his claws. And even when he was dealing with allies who knew him as Wolverine before the X-Men's "death" (including Karma of the New Mutants), he still thought this disguise would be effective.

To his credit, he did decide to wear a mask on most of his outings with his claws. Except the mask was just some netting that covered only his eyes, not his hair. Turns out he really wasn't fooling anyone. Once "Patch" revealed he was really Wolverine, everyone just said, "good, so now we can stop pretending we bought into that nonsense." For a guy who had a long career as a black ops agent, you think he'd be a bit better at disguises.
