10 Reasons Batman Is RUINING DC Comics
7. Too Many Sidekicks
The first sidekick in comics was Dick Grayson's Robin, who appeared all the way back in 1940. Batman is no stranger to sidekicks, and over his 82 years of publication, he's had a plethora of them. Some might say too many.
Everyone is familiar with the Robins and Batgirls, but that barely scratches the surface of the people Batman has roped into his war on crime. Ignoring Batwoman, Huntress and Azreal, there have been two different Batwings, with one of them belonging to Batman Incorporated. Batman Incorporated created a flood of Batman-inspired characters who were all trained and funded by Batman. The most recent Batman sidekicks to appear were Bluebird, Duke Thomas, and Talon, all of which failed to grab readers attention despite the talent of Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV.
Many of Batman's sidekicks have been forgotten over time as they did not gain an audience and couldn't hold a series of their own. DC's fans prefer Robins or Batgirls, which makes it hard for a new character to develop under the shadow of the Bat-family. New characters like Bluebird would have a better chance under the tutelage of other heroes, as they would have more room to develop without the added pressure of becoming a member of the Bat-family.
