10 Reasons Batman Is RUINING DC Comics

3. He Overshadows Other DC Characters

With Batman's overwhelming popularity, he casts a long shadow over the DC universe. With the mountain of Batman titles and comic events surrounding the Caped Crusader, it can be difficult for other characters to take centre stage.

Outside of the core Justice League members and their extended cast, most DC heroes are relegated to mini-series or have their ongoing series cut short while characters like Batman run for 50+ issues despite the quality. Team books are the easiest way for readers to see lower-tier characters - such as in Batman and the Outsiders - as pairing Batman with lower-tier characters is more profitable than giving them a solo series.

DC comics is not solely to blame as when characters with a smaller fan base receive an ongoing series or mini-series, like Blue Bettle and Plastic Man, their sales pale in comparison to other series. However, recent series like Wonder Twins and Dial H for Hero show promise as they focus on characters outside of the Bat-family and the Justice League. They were even so popular that they had their series extended to meet the demand.

Another series, DCeased, uses the whole DC universe as the Justice League is decimated and less popular heroes take the spotlight as they rise to the challenge.

DC can't just rely on Batman forever.
