Bringing the Watchmen into the DC Universe proper was not without controversy.

As noted before, Alan Moore is not on good terms with DC, and a lot of it has to do with the contract the writer had been given for Watchmen, which left him feeling cheated out of rights that should have been his.

The last time DC tried to capitalise on Watchmen's popularity with the Before Watchmen prequel, fans were left feeling a little icky about it. They knew that Moore wouldn't have been happy about it and would have no involvement, and it felt kind of... rude.

When it was announced that Rebirth would see the Watchmen making their way to the DC Universe, there were probably just as many people awkwardly tugging their colours unsure what to make of the idea, owing to the divided response that met said reveal.

Doomsday Clock will let us see where this is leading to exactly, and if DC Universe Rebirth is anything to go by, there could still hold a fair few surprises. So for all those times when comic creators have suggested their new story or event would 'break the internet'...Doomsday Clock may be the book to do it.
