10 Reasons Why Batman Needs Alfred Back

9. The Bat Family And Beyond

Alfred Pennyworth
DC Comics

Alfred was an instrumental part of the Bat Family and he had a relationship with each member of the team. He mourned the death of troubled second Robin Jason Todd and saw how Bruce began to lose himself after that death.

Pennyworth was surprised when young Tim Drake deduced the identities of Batman and the first Robin and went to Wayne Manor to confront them. It was Alfred that allowed Tim to wear the Robin costume and took him to help save Batman and Nightwing from Two-Face. The Dark Knight put the butler in charge of Drake’s initial training to become his third Boy Wonder.

Even though she was an infrequent visitor to the Batcave, Alfred was friends with Batgirl and made sure that Barbara Gordon was well taken care of after she was shot by the Joker. More than one Alfred-prepared meal found its way to Oracle’s door in the early days of her recovery.

It wasn’t just members of the Bat Family who appreciated Alfred. Many other heroes and everyday people respected Alfred Pennyworth and considered him a friend. Lucius Fox was friends with him, and there were even rumors of a one-time romance with Dr. Leslie Thompkins. And no less than Superman considered Alfred to be a great man. The Man of Steel said the world would be lost without the heroes Al raised and without his kindness and wisdom.
