10 Reasons Why Batman Needs Alfred Back

4. The Myth Of Bruce Wayne

It is generally widely accepted that Batman is Bruce Wayne's true face, and the billionaire playboy is the mask that he occasionally puts on when he has to and only when it is absolutely necessary. Bruce has always been notoriously bad at maintaining his daytime persona. It was Alfred’s job to maintain the fiction that was the life of “Bruce Wayne”, and with him gone, who is doing that job?

Alfred did a number of things that allowed Bruce to either sleep during the day or disappear for extended periods of time on his own cases or with the Justice League. Pennyworth’s acting skills were so good that he could perfectly mimic his employer’s voice on the phone. He also became a master of creating fictional trips to exotic vacation locales, complete with corroborating paperwork and eyewitnesses that would explain Master Wayne’s frequent absences. He also wasn’t above crashing an expensive car to explain his surrogate son’s broken bones.

Since Bruce has recently lost most of his fortune, he is not in the public eye as much as he used to be, but he is still a public figure. If he gets too focused on being Batman and gets too lax in maintaining his Bruce Wayne persona without Alfred to assist him, someone might start paying attention to how he spends his nights.
