Generally, comic cons are a lot of fun. They can be a pretty fun way to spend a weekend for those fans of pop culture that love meeting writers, artists and stars of TV and film.
However, you also find that often people can wind up feeling a little bit stressed by the sheer number of people there and the complete sensory overload at bigger conventions, and smaller, hotel based conventions like Flame Con, people can be very single-minded, or idle in their use of the time, going around to kill time rather than being open to checking things out.
Not so at Flame Con: despite being a hotel-based event, the sheer volume of people in attendance is deeply surprising, and everyone in attendance was excited and happy, and eagerly looking for new art, comics and, yes, pin badges to take home.
The sense of positivity and celebration is infectious, and it led to a convention that may in fact be one of the most fun and entertaining out there right now.
