10 Reasons Why The New 52 Did Not Work

7. Multiple Pre-Reboot Storylines Were Wasted

Following the companywide Blackest Night and Final Crisis events, DC had several stories that had significant promise. Teams such as the Justice Society and the Legion of Superheroes got new tales that reinvigorated their respective brands. In addition to this, DC stalwarts such as Swamp Thing and the Hawkpeople made their long-awaited returns.

Unfortunately, the New 52's arrival heralded the end of these stories in favour of, to put it mildly, divisive tales that lacked the verve and intrigue of their predecessors. This put off a lot of fans, since most of these offerings had not reached their narrative peaks, and starting afresh (or not seeing some of these characters until Rebirth) definitely did not make for an intriguing prospect.

As you will see in detail later on, the New 52 never truly felt lived in due to its brief timespan. This could have been easily countered by finding ways to integrate Pre-52 stories into the new timeline and DC would have had the best of both worlds, both literally and figuratively.
