10 Reasons Why The New 52 Did Not Work

6. Legacy Characters And Teen Heroes Were Afterthoughts

It is fitting that the progenitors of the concept of a sidekick have some of comics' best teen and legacy heroes. Characters such as Dick Grayson, Wally West, Donna Troy and Kara Zor-El managed to step out of their mentors' shadows and become compelling and dynamic heroes in their own right.

The same can be said about teams such as the Teen Titans, Young Justice and the Legion of Superheroes, who all had captivating adventures and devoted fanbases. Despite these storied histories and earned legacies, the New 52 did not hesitate to gut a crucial section of DC and replace it with something far less enjoyable.

It turns out that Dan DiDio harbours a strong dislike of teen heroes and legacy characters, and this manifested in the way their stories felt like afterthoughts. To add insult to injury, beloved figures such as Wally West, Aqualad and Tim Drake had lacklustre replacements or were completely missing in the rebooted timeline.
