10 Reasons Why The New 52 Did Not Work

2. Questionable Characterization

By now, it is clear that the Post-Crisis era offered the definitive interpretations of many heroes and villains for many fans, and any change made to their personalities would be met with hesitation at the very least. Now, this is not to say that such a revamp is incapable of working, but its execution needs to be spot on and justified.

Some of the Prime-Earth residents received changes to their personalities that were so drastic, they felt like brand new characters, and not in a good way. Heroes such as Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman and Superman were far cries from their more well-known selves, and as a result were more abrasive, hot-tempered and generally unlikeable.

Unfortunately, poor characterization was felt far strongly with DC's heroines and other female characters. In addition to being oversexualized, characters such as Catwoman, and especially Starfire, felt less like three-dimensional characters and more like props that set the stage for male-dominated stories.
