10 Reboots That Changed Comic Books Forever
2. Crisis On Infinite Earths
When it comes to reboots that changed comics forever, you can't get much more important than the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. The books launched back in 1985-1986 and restructured the entire DC Universe from what is now called its "Pre-Crisis" version.
Crisis on Infinite Earths created a sort of "red line" of what came before and what came after, which resulted in changes throughout the DC Universe. Pre-Crisis involved hundreds of alternate Earths, but Post-Crisis had only one Earth and the Antimatter Universe. That was it.
The overall point of the Crisis was to clean up the DC Universe and streamline it so it made more sense. It got rid of superfluous versions of characters and toned down some. Superman from Pre-Crisis continuity was so OP, he could pull apart universes. Post-Crisis Superman, conversely, was far less powerful and much more grounded than his former self.
The crossover also resulted in a number of eventful deaths including Supergirl and Barry Allen, who actually remained dead for years following Crisis. For fans of DC Comics, the period is well-known and certainly one of the most pivotal and important events to occur in all of comics... but especially for DC.
