10 Ridiculous Extra Superpowers That Were Phased Out Of The Comics

7. Daredevil’s Semi-Telepathy

Superman Silver Age Powers
Marvel Comics

He may not be, strictly speaking, a super-powered being, but since losing his sight at a young age in a radioactive accident, Matt Murdock’s remaining senses became more alert and vivid. With the help of his trainer Stick, an expert martial artist who shared Matt’s blindness, he was able to hone his senses and abilities to become the crime-fighting hero Daredevil.

Early renditions of the character implied that Matt's exposure to radioactivity did in fact imbue him with superhuman abilities, whereas Frank Miller’s hugely influential run suggested that his heightened senses were nothing supernatural.

With these differing accounts in mind, it’s tough to say whether Daredevil’s seldom seen telepathy is a true superpower, or a result of his training. It was introduced in the fourth issue of Stan Lee’s original run, and has remained in that era for the most part.

Ever since Miller’s reinvention of the Man Without Fear, Daredevil has belonged squarely within Marvel’s wheelhouse of realistic, street-level characters. When written with care, he feels like a hero that could exist in the real world. To give him telepathic abilities, however mild, would just feel wrong for the Daredevil we know today.
