10 Scariest Ever Batman Comics Stories
6. Mad
Even the less celebrated members of Batman's rogues gallery tend to be creepy little buggers. Take Jervis Tech, aka the Mad Hatter.
Taking his cues from the Alice in Wonderland character, Tech has been a bit-part player for longer than most, popping up in the odd one-shot or bigger, overarching story as a face to punch (see his Knightfall appearance) between set pieces. Whenever he does get his own major story though, it's almost always the stuff of nightmares.
Take The Dark Knight: Mad, which reintroduces the Hatter to the New 52 in horrifying style. Hatter is kidnapping Alices again to create his own Wonderland, as the sad, nasty story of his life plays out in flashbacks. While some of the storytelling is a little obvious (R.I.P yet another love interest for Bruce), author Greg Hurwitz recasts the Mad Hatter as a wily, sinister villain who's a far cry from the comical little man of the Animated Series.
