10 Scariest Ever Batman Comics Stories

4. Terror

When it comes to scary Batman stories, it's no big surprise that The Scarecrow is usually not too far away. In this sequel to Prey, we see the fear-obsessed criminal terrorising Gotham City, having teamed with a not-quite dead Hugo Strange and a reluctant Catwoman. As Batman tracks Crane down to his Gothic mansion, the game is afoot to see who can out-scare who in this battle of the night terrors.

While Terror is less gory and lurid than its predecessor, it remains one of the more unsettling Batman stories and a serious contender for the best Scarecrow tale ever told. Similar ground is covered in The Dark Knight: Cycle of Violence, to the extent where these tales are almost interchangeable in terms of fear factor, but when combined with its predecessor, Prey, Terror makes for quite the chilling one-two punch.
